Four Tips for Great Holiday Photos

Dec 13, 2019

The holidays are the perfect time to snap some fantastic family photos! Make the most out of those holiday photos with the tips below.

Avoid Digital Zoom

When snapping away on a smartphone, you may be tempted to zoom in for detail shots. Digital zoom (pinch zoom) can make your photos appear lower resolution and grainy. If you want to focus on a specific subject you have two options. Either get closer to the subject or take a wide shot and crop it later.

Get on Kids (and Pets) Level

Kids and pets are great subjects for holiday photos! To get the best photos, get down to their level. Remember, posed shots are nice but candid photos can be even better.

Keep Backgrounds Simple

No matter the subject of your photo, make sure the background is simple. A complicated background can distract from important people or objects.

Avoid the Flash

In a dimly-lit room, using the flash on your smartphone is very tempting. Try to avoid it wherever you can! Using the flash can have an odd effect on your subjects. Opt instead for ambient lighting or adjusting the brightness of the photo later.

We hope you find these tips helpful. Don’t forget to enjoy your time with family and friends while you’re documenting the festivities. Remember, your memories are just pictures without the stories behind them!
